Married vs Singles Tournament

Singles 4 10 - Marrieds 2 07

The annual Married v Singles attracted a good sized crowd to the Jack Walsh Memorial Park on Friday last December 29th. The prize for the winners at the end of an absorbing contest was the Kennedy Cup and a delighted Dan Kearney who played a captains part on behalf of the Singles accepted the Cup from Club Secretary Mark O Hanlon which made it a hatrick of victories over their great rivals.

There was plenty action throughtout with the Singles enjoying the lions share of possession and at the break led by 2 06 to 0 04. However on the changeover early goals from Charles Dalton and Sean Doran snr brought the Marrieds back into contention, but back came the Singles who finished with a florish and finished comfortable victors at the final whistle.
This game marked the return to the football scene of Sean Red Stack who lined out in goals for the singles. Sean suffered a broken leg in the 2006 Intermediate Championship and has been out of football for up to four months, so its great news for the club that their star full back will hopefully be back in action in the not too distant future. Other features of the game was the battle of the Dorans at midfield where John jnr proved too mobile and was involved in the majority of his sides scores, there was a bit of confusion before the game got underway as to who John Long should be lining out for, but after consultation with the singles mentors who claimed he was their player and the Club Officials it was agreed that John would be lining out with the loosing side. However once again the Asdee East man played a star role. The games top scorer was Conor Coughlan with 2 02 for the Singles. Referee for the occasion was Eimear McElligott who herself was no stranger to the football scene having won Al Ireland medals with Kerry Ladies at under 14 level and at club level with Abbeydorney ladies. So all in all a most enjoyable afternoon.

Novice Championship Semi Final

Knocknure 2 02 - Asdee B 0 05

Played at Stack Park Ballybunion on Sunday last in very difficult weather conditions our Junior footballers despite putting up a very encouraging opening half aided by a strong wind finally had to give way to a much more determined Knocknure outfit who came into this game clear favourites not alone to clear this hurdle but to win the competition outright. However having been defeated in last years final by the same opposition Asdee went into the game hoping to reverse that result but at the final whistle everybody agreed that the better team won, but that result could so easily have gone our way but for some wayard shooting especially during the opening half that also say a goal disallowed for some unknown reason.
As already stated Asdee were clearely the better side during the first half and with John Kennedy showing some lovely touches at centre forward scoring 5 excellent points and at the break it was Asdee who led on a score of 5pts to K nocknures 1gl, but the second half saw a big improvement by Knocknure and with Asdee failing to lift a single flag during that second half and the opposition adding a further 1 02 and that proved the difference in the end.
The team as a whole played well but there was some excellent performances from Eoin O Carroll Kenneth Tydings Joe Holly Thomas Mulvihill and the golden oldies John Kennedy J P McElligott and Sean O Keeffe with the latter leaving his corner position for the second half to take up his position in goals and went on to make a number of superb saves.

Intermediate Championship Semi Final

Ballyduff B 1 09 - Asdee A 1 07

Played at Listowel, hearthache is the only way to describe this gripping contest as it was the second successive year we tasted defeat in this competition at the final hurdle. Certainly it was a game that so easily have gone our way but after producing a splended opening 25 minutes in which we held a 1pt lead and looked to have control of the game, but suddenly we lost our shape struggling in a number of positions, giving away sone very silly frees which the Ballyduff boys took full advantage of and on the other hand squandered some guilt edged scoring opportunities of our own. I suppose the most crucial score of the game came after 17mts of the second half, again a silly foul on an opposing player out 45 meters out on the sideline. This looked a harmless delivery but as the ball dropped in the goalmouth it deceived James Kelly in the Asdee goal and ended up in the net to give Ballyduff a six point lead and from here to the final whistle Asdee were always playing catch up football and even though Asdee put in a storming finish they just could not break down a very determined Ballyduff defence.

In the opening half which was all square on no fewer than 4 occasions ebbed and flowed throughtout. Asdee opened the scoring inside the opening half when Paul O Carroll with the left leg from an acute angle sent the ball sweetly over the bar. Ballyduff replied in the 4th and 7th minute to go ahead only for Brian Coughlan to level up matters in the 10th minute. James Kelly was very alert to save a dangerous situation 2 minutes later but Ballyduff took the lead once again after 14 minutes. At this stage even though Asdee were trailing but were playing well, the only problem being they were finding it hard to put scores on the board and this was probably their downfall by the end of the contest. However points from Cyril Dineen and Padraig Ruddle had Asdee in front once more by 22nd minute. Ballyduff finished the half well kicking 2 points and at the break it was Ballyduff who led by 5pts to 4pts.

Asdee started the second half in very determined fashion despite kicking 3 early wides and 1n the 2nd minute Padraig Ruddle levelled up matters once again. But from here in it all seemed to go wrong for Asdee,as all ready stated missed scoring opportunities, silly frees given away and some scrappy play didnt help matters as Ballyduff were getting on top on a number of key positions. They now were to kick a number of bad wides, however they were still notching the all important scores and by the 9th minute had gone 3 points clear. Then came the goal that killed off the game in the 17th minute and it was an uphill struggle from here in for the boys in black and amber. However they never gave up and laid seige to the Ballyduff goals during those closing stages but the Cashen boys who were reduced to 13 players before the final whistle sounded held out for victory.
Overall Ballyduff just about deserved their win and we congratulate them on their recent success. Well done to our boys and even in defeat they played their hearts out and nobody can be faulted for a huge effort put in by both players and management in making the year a memorable one.

County Novice Shield Quarter Final
Asdee 2 05 - Churchill 1 11

Played at the Spa Pitch in Churchill our senior footballers put up a mighty performance before going down to a fancied Churchill who could boast of two of Kerrys All Ireland winning Junior Footballers along with many other very familar faces. However despite taking the opening 30 minutes or so to find their feet Asdee turned in a superb second half display to almost overhaul the home side who led at the break by 7pts to 2pts, but goals from Eoin Kennedy and Padraig Ruddle almost paid dividands, however those vital scores came too late to save the day and when the whistle sounded it was Churchill who advanced to a semi final meeting with Knocknagoshel

Intermediate Championship Semi Final

Asdee 2 11 - Beale B 2 08

By virtue of a hard earned but fully deserved 3 point victory Asdee qualified for their second successive Intermediate Championship final but not before they had to pull out all the stops in disposing of an understrength but very spirited Beale side in a keenly contested contest played as a curtain raiser to the Brosna v Knocknagoshel senior championship first round game played at Listowel on Sunday last.

The game got underway with Asdee dictating matters and playing with the aid of a slight breeze, but despite enjoying plenty possession they were finding it hard to put scores on the board, wasting some good scoring opportunities. However by the 20th minute they still led by 4pts to Beales 2pts. Cyril Dineen 2pts Paul O Carroll and Padraig Ruddle a point each being on target. Then in the 22nd minute the Seasiders were awarded a penalty and up stepped Seanie O Sullivan to give James Kelly in the Asdee goals little chance with a piledriver of a shot to the roof of the net. But Asdee were quick to reply and in a 2 minute spell had the ball nestling in the net twice. Eoin Kennedy won a ball out on the endline at the corner flag then cut his way in to crash the ball to the net. this was in the 24th minute and then a minute later it was Padraig Ruddle who got on the end of a good move and he made no mistake from close range. Eoin Kennedy Brian Coughlan and Michael Walsh scored further points and at the break it was Asdee who had a commanding lead, Asdee 2 07 to Beale 1 02.

However it was a much different story during the second half , Beale regigged their lineup and in doing so took the game to the pre match favourites. A goal of a rather soft variety in the 17th minute saw the margin down to a 5 point margin and Beale were well back in the contest as Asdee were struggling in a number of positions. Points from Eoin Kennedy and Cyril Dineen kept the black and amber flag flying but they were having to work overtime especially in defence as the Seasiders were pressing hard for scores. Then in a welter of excitement and time almost up only 3 points seperated the sides but when the final whistle sounded it was Asdee who emerged victorious and will now take on Ballyduff in the final.
However the team will have to up their performance considerably if they hope to lift the Kieran Corridan Memorial Cup and going on this display will be very much the underdogs going into the final.

Asdee were best served on the day by John Doran at midfield who gave a man of the match display and was ably assisted by Padraig Ruddle Eoin Kennedy Cyril Dineen Sean Mulvihill Charles Dalton and Noel Long.
A minutes silence was observed prior to the game in rememberance of the late Peggy McElligott and Joe Doran who passed away last week.

Fossa 4 21 Asdee 2 02

Due to holidays and other commitments our very much understrength senior footballers travelled to promotion contenders Fossa on Sat. evening last but found the home side too much to handle in a one sided contest.
Asdee failed to register a single score in the opening half with Fossa having the game wrapped up even at this stage leading 2 09. On the changeover it was more of the same as the home side simply proved much too good and ran out easy winners. Asdee did put in a late burst with Liam McElligott scoring 2 goals with one coming from the penalty spot. However fair dues to each and every member of the team they never gave up the chase even though it was a lost cause from early on and certainly there has been a big improvement on the teams performances from recent years.

Peter Stack Cup Final

Knocknure 4 05 Asdee B 1 10

Played at Walsh Park these two evenly matched teams served up a very entertaining contest and even though the home side struggled during the first half they more than made up for it when they put in a storming display during the second half and after been in arrears by a 7pt margin at the break they outscored the Knocknure boys but despite constant pressure failed to get the neccessary scores that would have given them victory or at least a share of the spoils.
However well done to Knocknure, they were the better team on this occasion and they deserved to lift the Magnificent Peter Stack Cup.
After the game grandson of the late Peter Stack, Sean presented the magnificent Cup to the Knocknure captain amid some great scenes of jubilation.

Jack Walsh Cup Final
Ballylongford 3 14 Ballydonoghue 2 07

Ballylongford lifted their second Jack Walsh Cup when they defeated Ballydonoghue in Asdee on Tuesday last. However despite the 10 point winning margin that seperated the sides at the final whistle this did not do justice to a very game and determined display by a youthful Ballydonoghue side who after giving a wonderful first half performance finally had to give way to the more experienced Ballylongford outfit who played some wonderful football especially during that second half and in the end were very deserving winners on the evening.
Certainly the good sized attendance got good value for money as these two great rivals went head to head. It was nip and tuck as play swung from end to end. By the 8th minute Ballylongford had taken a 2pt lead but by the 12th minute Eoin O Sullivan got on the end of of great move to finish to the net to put Ballydonoghue ahead. 5 minutes later Timmy Foley was quick to reply when he billowed the net from close range and Ballylongford hit the front once again. The sides were all square in the 25th minute but a late surge by the Ballydonoghue men saw them lead at the break 1 07 to 1 04.
Within 1 minute of the restart Ballydonoghue continued where they left off and a powerful drive from Paul Kennelly saw his shot come back after the keeper made a fine save but in nipped Daniel Kennelly to finish neatly to the net. But this was as good as it got for Ballydonoghue and even though they kept plugging away they failed to score for the remainder of the half and two quick goals in the 3rd and 4th minute by Shane O Hanlon and Joe McCarthy respectively put paid to their chances of victory and Ballylongford took complete control and kicked a further 9 points into the bargain to finish deserving winners on the evening.
After the game Chairman of the Asdee Club Padraig Vallelly gave a detailed account of the football career of the late Jack Walsh, he also thanked all the teams that took part and also match referee Eddie Anthony Walsh and his match officials.
Then Eddie son of the ledgend himself winner of 6 All Ireland Senior Medals with Kerry and 2 Railway Cup Medals with Munster was on hand to present the magnificent Walsh Cup to Paul O Donoghue captain of the Ballylongford team.

Man of the Match went to the Ballylongford corner forward Joe McCarthy who was most impressive all through scoring 1 02.

County League Div 5
Listry 0 15 Asdee 1 10

Played at Walsh Park Asdee this was a most entertaining encounter. Both sides had good periods of dominance, kicked their share of wides but certainly the home side was the bigger offenders when it came to being off target and the two great goal opportunites that went a begging during the second half proved costly when the final whistle sounded.
Listry playing against a tricky cross field wind got off to the better start and by the 20 minute had chalked up 8pts before Asdee opened their account a minute later when the games top scorer Paul O Carroll kicked a 20 meter free and at the break it was listry who led by 11pts to Asdees 3pts.
Inside the opening minute on resumption the Asdee keeper James Kelly was called upon to make a point blank save. This seemed to inspire his colleagues to new heights as they threw everything at the Listry defence and by the 19th minute had cut the deficit to just 2 points, however some wasted opportunities were to prove costly as the game came to its conclusion. Listry put in a storming finish to go 5 points clear with as many minutes remaining which included a pointed penalty. However in the 29th minute Asdee got a goal back when Paul O Carroll saw his powerful drive come off a defender and finished up in the net. This was the final score of the game before match Referee Paddy White called a halt to proceedings.
Best for Listry were midfielder Jimmy O Leary who was ably assisted by David Nolan Jer O Shea John Foley and Stephen Darmody. For Asdee Kerry minor trainer John Kennedy showed some nive touches,Liam McElligott Brian O Hanlon Paul O Carroll and Micheal Walsh also tried hard.

Asdee travelled to Cordal full of confidence even though they were much understrength. Played at Coolard this was a cracking contest from start to finish that hung in the balance up to the sound of the final whistle. At the break it was Ballydonoghue who held a 1pt lead and during a hectic 2nd half it was a ding dong struggle and with 2 minutes to go only a point seperated the sides and Asdee pressing hard for the equaliser however in a quick breakaway Daniel Kennelly put the game out of Asdees reach when he got through for that vital goal Asdee scorers L McElligott 1 01 J Kennedy 2pts C Coughlan M Walsh 1pt

Championship Quarter Final

Asdee 2 12 Clounmacon 1 07

By virtue of an 8 point win over Clounmacon our senior footballers qualified for the semi final stages of the competition turning in a magnificent team performance at Coolard last weekend; and in doing so turned the tables on our great rivals who pipped us in the final of last years competition.
Certainly Asdee were full value for this win, they showed greater appetite for the game kicked some great scores and even though they looked shaky early on especially during the opening half they never at any stage looked in danger of defeat even though Clounmacon kept plugging away but it must be mentioned even though this was an exceptional team display the performances of both Cyril Dineen at full forward and the flying Liam McElligott at wing forward were to pose the biggest problems for the opposing team who tried a number of markers to try to contain them but im afraid this was all to no avail as they went from strength to strength as the game moved on.

Asdee got off to a good start with Paul O Carroll kicking us into an early lead but this was quickly cancelled out as Clounmacon reply was immediate. The remainder of the half was nip and tuck with play swinging from end to end Liam McElligott went on a flying solo run leaving a number of markers in his wake and his finish to the net in the 15th mt was a wonderful score. Clounmacon were not to be outdone and coming up to the break were rewarded for their efforts with a goal in injury time to leave the half time score Clounmacon 1 06 Asdee 1 05. Within 4mts on resumption Asdee hit a purple patch with Cyril Dineen very much to the fore kicking 2 lovely points and when Liam McElligott turned provider he blasted the ball to the back of the net.At this early stage Asdee took control and finished with a florish of well taken points and holding their opponents to a single second half point.
However this splended win was spoiled when with under 1mt left for play our star full back Sean Red Stack accidently broke his leg. We all join in on wishing Sean a speedy recovery.
On behalf of the club we would like to thank everybody who helped in any way in making Sean as comfortable as possible while waiting for the Ambulance.

County Novice Shield

Asdee 6 10 Knocknure 0 03

Played at Walsh Park on Saturday last in perfect conditions i very much doubt if our senior footballers will have it as easy in any of the remaining competitions in 2006.
Knocknure were simply out of their league as Asdee just strolled to the easiest of wins and only for the fact that the home side kicked some terrible wides the margin of victory could have been much greater.
This game started thirty five minutes late, twenty five minutes a side was agreed to play and with just under 15 minutes of the second half, on the instructions of the Knocknure club match referee Stephen Mulvihill called a halt to proceedings.
In fairness Asdee played some very attractive football but as already stated the strength of the opposition would have to be questioned. Knocknure got their opening score in the 14th minute but by that time the home club had registered 7 points. After squandering two easy goal opportunities they finally hit the target with Brian Coughlan hitting goals in the 16th and 24th minute and another from Paul O Carroll in between and at the break it was Asdee who were well ahead by 3 08 to 0 01.
The same trend continued during the opening minutes on resumption and further goals from Paul O Carroll and Cyril Dineen was too much to take for the opposing team and the match came to a sudden end when the final whistle blew in the 13th minute of this half.

County League Division 5

Ballylongford 2 10 Asdee 2 04

Asdees tenacity almost paid off before pre match favourites Ballylongford had to endure some anxious moments before grinding out
a hard earned but fully deserved victory, a win that sees then go clear at the top of Division 5.

Played at Walsh Park this local derby was a cracking contest that ebbed and flowed throughout. Certainly Ballylongford had the lions share of possession but wasted some great scoring opportunities kicking a total of 13 wides in all with 8 of those coming during the opening half.
The first half saw the visitors hit the front and despite some good play by the home side Bally led by 1 03 to nill after 13 minutes. The goal coming after a long delivery by Brendan Bambury was fisted to the net by Paul O Hanlon. However Asdee weathered the storm and in the 19th minute Mike Long stole in behind a hesitant opposing defense to finish a good move to the net that was provided by John Doran and at the short whistle the scoreline read Ballylongford 1 05 Asdee 1 01.

Within 2 minutes of the restart Bally went 8 points clear when full forward Timmy Foley and the games top scorer with 1 03 hit 1 01 in as many minutes. But the home side showed great character and dug deep and were rewarded when Liam McElligott saw his long delivery finished to the net by John Doran on the three quarter stage and the game was back in the melting pot once more. In fact it took a tremendous save by the Bally keeper Patrick O Brien to deny Cyril Dineen what looked like a certain goal in the 20 minute. The remaining minutes were played out in championship fervour but the more experienced Bally boys registered further points and at the final whistle had 6 points to spare over their great rivals at the final whistle.

Bally were best served by Paddy Kelly Brendan Bambury Paul O Hanlon and Timmy Foley while for Asdee Cyril Dineen was without doubt their best performer and he was ably assisted by Padraig Ruddle Liam McElligott and John Doran.

Despite going down by a 28 point margin at the final whistle the above scoreline certainly does not do justice to a battling performance by an understrength Asdee side. Then to make matters worse two of our more influential players John O Gorman and Brian O Hanlon collided and had to depart the scene after just 10 minutes into the game.
Clounmacon was the venueand the Listowel side were firm favourites going into this tie and rightly so as they had a very experienced side on duty many of whome had played on the senior side during the past year or so. Make no mistake about it Emmets were always in control and right from the throw in made there intentions knownand at the break had a commanding lead of 3 07 to 1 02. There can be no excuses offered on this occasion when our senior footballers travelled to Walsh Park Knock to take on the locals in round 5 of the County League on Sat. evening last. Most certainly we left our true form behind us and suffered as a result. There was a slight glimmer of hope after playing well up to to break and just 7 points in arrears with Charles Dalton and Cyril Dineen firing in well taken goals but once Knock got going during the second half they just brushed us aside to stroll to a 15 point victory. Asdee B 5 08 Gale Rangers 1 02

Despite having to field a very much understrength side and with both league points on offer necessary to qualify for the knock out stages of the competition our B side made light of these obstacles at Sheehy Park Listowel on Wednesday last where after a slow and sluggish start they eventually came good and when the final whistle sounded had 18 points to spare over a determined and youthful Gale Rangers side who even though were outclassed never gave up the chase but in the end had to bow to a much stronger outfit.
The opening quarter was evenly contested with both sides scoring 2 points a piece, however in the 16th minute this all changed when Asdee hit a hat-trick of goals within a 5 minute spell. Dan Kearney got the first of his 2 goals followed by further goals by Charles Dalton and Kenneth Tydings and at the interval the scoreline read Asdee 3 02 Gale Rangers 0 02.
On resumption Asdee continued to impress and take the game to their opponents. Gale Rangers were finding the going tough as Asdee were picking off their scores at will. Goals from Dan Kearney and Paul O Hanlon midway through the half killed this game as a contest but in fairness to Gale Rangers they kept plugging away and were rewarded with a well taken goal before the final whistle.
Certainly Asdee when they will have a full panel of players to pick from will fancy their chances of outright success. On the day when everybody played their part Dan Kearney Charles Dalton Joe Holly Donal O Carroll Kenneth Tydings David O Connor and the evergreen Mike Griffin played a huge part in victory. Our Semi-final opponents will be Listowel Emmets C with the winners to play either Brosna B or Clounmacon B who contest the remaining semi-final.Dates and venues to be decided.

This was another very impressive display but the squandering of some glorious scoring opportunities and especially 3 guilt edged goal chances was to prove costly in the end., also there was some terrible home town decisions by the official in charge and this is not fair after a team had to travel a 100 plus round trip. fair play is all anybody is looking for.
The opening half saw Asdee hit the front and goals from Paul O Carroll and Cyril Dineen saw them lead at the break by 2 01 to 0 05. On the changeover Asdee continued to take the game to their opponents and entering the final quarter had a comfortable 5pt lead and looked set to advance to the next round but as already stated some bad refeering decisions along with poor shooting were to prove our downfall in the end.The final 10 mts were hectic as Derrynane put in a storming finish adding the necessary points to snatch victory at the death. Asdee will now take part in the County Novice Shield at a date and venue to be arranged. Once again Brian O Hanlon had a storming game at centre back while not far behind were Charles Dalton Cyril Dineen and Michael Walsh.

Div 4 Asdee B 1 04 Clounmacon B 0 05

Again a home venue this time for our Junior footballers and what a result, a two point winning margin over what would be considered a team destined for the knockout stages of the competition. On top of that Asdee were very much understrength on the evening but fair play to all concerned they dug their heels in from the start and in a welter of excitement held out for a terrific win. At the break Clounmacon were ahead by 0 03 to 0 02 and even at this stage looked all set for victory, however the home side had other ideas and contested every ball as if their lives depended on it, it was nip and tuck and with both defences on top the scores were hard to come by. But the break that the home team needed came with 10 minutes to go, Danny Finucane was grounded inside the square and a penalty resulted, up stepped 15 year old Kenneth Tydings who was making his debut in the senior ranks and with a bullet of a shot had the net dancing. Still Clounmacon were coming forward but the home defence who were working overtime held out.Certainly a fantastic result which keeps our chances of qualifying for the knockout stages very much alive. However there are still two back games to be played against Gale Rangers and Emmets C and hopefully we can have a full panel of players on duty for those games.
Goalkeeper Padraig Vallelly was on top of his game making some very important saves in goals Donal O Carroll Thomas Mulvihill Dan Dalton Dinny Dalton along with the very impressive Kenneth Tydings were among Asdees stars on the evening. Another man who was making his first appearance in a black and amber jersey was Eamon Edgeworth who lined out at corner forward .

Scorers Kenneth Tydings 1gl Brian O Hanlon Danny Finucane Dan Kearney Dinny Dalton 1point each.

Div. 2 Asdee A 3 03 St Senans B 0 11

Played at Walsh Park our senior footballers had their first win in this years North Kerry League when they had a point to spare over the Senans
in a very evenly contested and most enjoyable encounter with the result hanging in the balance up to the sound of the final whistle.
Both teams were well up for it on the evening and a rousing contest followed. In fairness the visitors who were slight favourites going into this game can only blame themselves as they were to kick some bad wides over the hour, the home side were also guilty in this respect but when those vital opportunities came their way they took them with open arms.
Certainly the three goal salvo that Asdee had were vital to the end result,The opening goal came inside the first minute when Cyril Dineen got inside the opposing defence to hammer low and hard to the net. Then Paul O Carroll struck for the first of his two goals, a short kick out resulted in O Carroll winning possession and cheekly lobbing the advancing keeper in the 25th minute,he completed his double after 7 minutes of the second half after a good build up involving Dineen Ruddle and finished by O Carroll.
The opening half was a ding dong affair with both sides playing some good football and at the break it was all square at Asdee 2 01 Senans 0 07. On the changeover it was still anybodys game and as already stated the wides were the difference over the hour.It was level in the 14th and 26th ninutes and as the watch moved towards the full time whistle up popped Mike Long to swing over the lead point with a minute remaining.
Overall the home side just about deserved to take the league points on offer and they can thank some sterling performances from especially Cyril Dineen David O Connor Brian O Hanlon Padraig Ruddle Michael Walsh and keeper James Kelly who brought off a stunning save midway through the first half. Asdee A 1 03 Listowel Emmets B 0 06 (Abandoned after 39 minutes of play)

Played at Walsh Park on Sat. evening last Emmets and Asdee came head to head in what was to be a crucial game, certainly the points were vital to the home side if they were to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.
The game got off to a whirlwind start with both teams playing some very direct football but the squandering of some easy scoring opportunities kept the scoreline low. After Emmets opened their account in the 5th minute the home side were quick to reply. Aquick clearance out of defence was won by Noel Long who soloed his way through the Emmets defence and with a piledriver sent a rasping shot that came off the crossbar but there lurking was full forward Cyril Dineen who had the simple task of fisting the ball to the net. Dineen again and Michael Walsh along with Padraig Ruddle kicked further points to give the home side a 3point lead coming up to the break ,but the visitors tagged on late points and the score at the interval was Asdee 1 03 Emmets 0 04. On resumption Emmets were quick to settle and inside the 6th minute had drawn level.
Then in the 9 th minute a refereeing decision was questioned by a Listowel player that resulted in that player being sent off.Further disagreement continued and Referee John Ross decided to call a halt to preceedings. The matter will now be dealt with by the North Kerry Board.
This was a pity that the game had to end on this note as up to that stage the game was played in a very sporting manner.

Giving their best performance of the season to date our B squad displaying confidence and some very classy football proved much too strong
for a fancied Knocknure side. The foundations of victory were laid at midfield where Danny Finucane and Donal O Carroll held the upper hand throught and with John Kennedy on the forty and Charles Dalton at number 14 causing endless problems for the visiting defence scoring 4 05 between them. In fairness this game was over at the break as the home side held a commanding lead of 4 03 to 0 02. On resumption the same trend continued with Asdee dominating throughout. Overall a great team performance and which also puts the team in with a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages. Asdee 1 07 Kilgarvan 0 05

Asdee senior footballers won their first points in the current County League when on Sat. evening last at Coolard they had a deserved victory over
a fancied Kilgarvan side in a most entertaining and well contested encounter.
Certainly Asdee were well up for this one and got stuck in from the word go and without doubt this was the best performance from the team for quite some time, they played as a unit hasselled for every ball as if their lives depended on it and when they looked in some trouble for the final quarter of the game they dug deep and weathered the storm to finish strong again.
The opening half saw Asdee hit the front as early as the 1st minute with a fantastic point from all of 40 meters from the boot of Michael Walsh, this was followed by further points by Paul O Carroll and Brian Coughlan before the visitors opened their account in the 16th minute. From here to the sound of the short whistle it was Asdee who played the better football and only for some poor shooting at times they could have been further ahead at the break. Asdee 0 06 Kilgarvan 0 03. Within 2 minutes of the restart the home side got off to a dream start and after a defence splitting move that started with Noel Long who transferred to Cyril Dineen who in turn found the inrushing Michael Walsh and the latter made no mistake with a piledriver to the roof of the net.
As play moved on the visitors came more into the game and only for some terrible wides from play and frees they could have come a lot closer, however the introduction of substitutes Liam McElligott and Danny Finucane for the last 10 minutes seemed to settle Asdee and they held on for a superb win.
Overall a magnificent performance from Asdee with each player contributing to a great victory.

Moyvane 4-08 Asdee 1-06

Played at Walsh Park and after a dull opening half in which the visitors completed dominated, this game certainly came to life during a stormy second half in which we had two sendings off, two penalties and some very heated exchanges as the home side tried in vain to pull back a half time deficit of 9points, but try as they did they just could come to terms with a much better balanced more skillful and certainly a more determined Moyvane side who were full value for their 8point winning margin when match referee Diarmuid O Carroll blew for full time.
As already stated the first half belonged to the visitors who got a dream start when Niall Shine got inside the Asdee defence and hammered the ball to the net inside the opening minute.Centre forward David Moloney who was a thorn in the home defence throughtout got his sides 2nd goal in the 13mt and finally Asdee opened their account a minute later with Mike Long on target. With Moyvane well in control they led at the interval Moyvane 2 06 Asdee 0 03. Brian Cunningham and Cyril Dineen exchanged points before we got the first of those penalties, John McGrath converted for Moyvane in the 5th mt while Michael Walsh did likewise for Asdee 6mts later.
Play became heated at this stage and Charles Dalton Asdee and Maurice Kearney Moyvane received their 2nd yellow and got their marching orders after 20 minutes of play. When things cooled down it was still Moyvane who were calling the shots, however the introduction of Paul O Carroll during those closing stages added a bit of bite to what was otherwise a well held home attack.
Overall a poor contest played in rather heavy underfoot conditions and there was never a doubt but that the better team won on the day.
Moyvane had Timmy Kennelly David Moloney Maurice Kearney Mark Hanrahan and the Keane brothers Aidan and Tom among their best players on the evening. For Asdee Cyril Dineen showed some nice touches up front Brian O Hanlon Michael Walsh Sean Red Stack Dinny Dalton and Paul O Carroll when introduced.
Scorers Moyvane Johnny McGrath 2 01 David Moloney 1 03 Niall Shine 1gl Aidan Keane 2pts Maurice Kearney and Brian Cunningham 1pt each. Asdee Michael Walsh 1 01 Mike Long and Paul O Carroll 2pts each Cyril Dineen1pt.

Templenoe 2-08 Asdee 1-08

Our Seniors made the long trek to South Kerry on Sat last where they took on a fancied Templenoe side and after a marvelous game of fast open
football we were most unlucky not to at least get a share of the spoils. With 3mts left for play and down by a 4point margin Michael Walsh struck for a superb goal to cut the deficit to a single point however try as they did they just could not get in for that vital point which would secure a draw, instead the home side broke clear and made sure of victory with those late scores.
Asdee with plenty play in that opening half trailed 1 04 to 6pts and inside the opening few minutes on resumption Asdee lost their star player John Long along with a player from the opposing side who both received a second yellow for their troubles. However the visitors were always in the hunt but the old story of not putting scores on the board was to prove costly in the end.Overall a great display John Doran and Padraig Ruddle were on top at midfield while Donal O Carroll in defence and Michael Walsh in attack were always in the thick of the action. Eoin Kennedy made a brief appearance late in the second half scoring a point and his presence from the start could have turned the tables in our favour.
Scorers Michael Walsh 1 02 Conor Coughlan Danny Finucane Padraig Ruddle Eoin Kennedy Brian Coughlan.

Minors: Asdee/Bally minor squad put up a fine show before going down to Gneevguilla in round 4 of the County Minor League. This time without the services of Eoin Kennedy Ray O Sullivan took up the mantle of top scorer finishing with a tally of 2 03 from play. Players on the starting 15 from this side of the parish were Eoin O Carroll Thomas Mulvihill Dinny Dalton John Rea and Nial Doran and all aquitted themselves well.Brian O Hanlon would also be on from the start but injury forced him out on this occasion

Asdee 1 04 Desmonds B 0 13

Played at Castleisland our Seniors went down by a 6pt margin at the final whistle but in fairness that final scoreline does scant justice
to a very encouraging performance by a very much understrength side who played their hearts out and even though the home side were never in any danger of defeat they had to fight all the way for the league points. The ability of their attacking sexet to regester excellent points enabled Desmonds to finish deserving winners at the final whistle. The opening half was nip and tuck and at the break it was the home side who led 5pts to 3pts. On the changeover Desmonds were piling on the pressure and tagged on some nice scores, however the visitors stuck to their guns and a well taken goal by John Doran narrowed the gap but it was too little too late and the Desmonds finished well on top.
Dinny Dalton at full back and David O Connor at number 6 were to the fore in defence while up front Michael Walsh Mike Long and Charles Dalton always looked dangerous when in possession.Team J Kelly T Mulvihill C Dalton D O Carroll B O Hanlon D O Connor S McElligott J Doran N Long N Doran C Dalton M Walsh P O Hanlon D Finucane M Long. Bally B 1 14 Asdee A 3 07

Our Senior footballers were pipped at the post by our near neighbours and fellow parishioners Ballylongford B in the opening round of the Div 2 league. played at Walsh Park on Sat las. This was a most entertaining contest with both sides playing some outstanding footballwhich kept the good sized attendance on their toes through. Asdee after a slow start quickly got into their stride and aided by a slight breeze hit the front by the 10th mt only for Bally to draw level by the end of the 1st quarter. Then between the 18th and 21st mtthe home side hit a purple patch scoring 3 fantastic goals from Charles Dalton Paul Hanlon and Nial Doran and at this it looked like a home victory was on the cards as the held a commanding 8pt lead at the interval Asdee 3 05 Bally6pts.
However on resumption things were quickly to change as the visitors really got stuck in and inspired by Tomas Dennehy on the number position they laid seige to the Asdee goals. Asdee were finding it to put scores on the board and by the 22nd mt the sides were all square. Then a mt later Derek Nolan hit the winner after a good run through the middle and this proved to be the winner. Asdee did have an opportunitiy to draw level but having to score direct from a difficult angled kick Michael Walshs delivery dropped short as the final whistle sounded.
Certainly the result was disappointing to say the least not because it was a local derby game but for the simple reason that Asdee should have this game wrapped up but the squandering of some easy scoring opportunities and some sloppy passing was in the end to prove their downfal.
But in fairness our very much understrength side played their hearts out and were unlucky to at least get a draw.

Derrynane 0 11 Asdee 1 06

Played at Finuge on Sun last our Senior footballers just failed in their attempt to secure their first County League win going down by a 2pt margin to Derrynane in a keenly contested game . However this was a game that could so easily gone in our favour as we matched the South Kerry lads for the bigger part of the game but some poor shooting from both play and frees left a lot to be desired
The opening half was very evenly contested and after a shaky enough start Asdee settled down to give as good as they got and by the 29th minute of the first half were on level terms at 4pts each , however just on the stroke of the short whistle the visitors struck for the point that had them ahead at the break . Derrynane 5pts Asdee 4pts

Inside the opening minute on resumption Brian Coughlan kicked an insprinational point to tie up the scores. Then in the 16th minute after the home side had dominated up to this stage but were finding it hard to put scores on the board up popped Eoin Kennedy who won possission 40 meters out from goal and with a dazzling run leaving many would be markers in his wake sent an unstoppable shot to the roof of the Derrynane net for one of the finest goals seen at this venue for some time. Now Asdee had their tails up but despite as already mentioned plenty possession they failed to put scores on the board. Derrynane kept plugging away kicking the neccesary scores that won them those precious County League points.
However this was another encouraging display by our young side who on this occasion were short a number of players out injured at the moment.

On the day everyone played their part but especially Sean Stack and Brian O Hanlon in defence Padraig Ruddle and John Doran had their noments at midfield while up front Eoin Kennedy was the star scoring 1 04 of his sides tally. It was great to see Noel Long back after a long term injury and when introduced looked very impressive.

Asdee 1 04 St Senans 0 07

Surely a County League result that had a happy ending, so after a 5year stint without a single County League point Asdee finally came up trumps to grind out a hard earned but fully deserved share of the spoils against a fancied St Senans side and im sure that anybody in the good sized attendance at Mountcoal would not begrudge the visitors their hour of glory and in doing so were short a number of their regular outfit.
This was a keenly contested encounter that hung in the balance up to the sound of the final whistle, hard earned scores plenty action however though the Referee issued a number of cards with red going to Asdees Liam McElligott 2mts into the second half the game was always played in a sporting manner.
The opening half saw Senans hit the front after 6mts but by the 25th mt the sides were on level terms at 3pts each with Brian Coughlan 2 and Michael Walsh on target. Senans hit the front once again only for Asdee to strike a hammer blow in the 29th mt. Brian Coughlan sent a ball goalwards that spilled off the Senans keeper and Conor Coughlan was first to react and hammered the ball to the net and at the break it was Asdee 1 03 St Senans 0 05

On resumption it was nip and tuck with the play swinging from end to end, both sides kicked some terrible wides with both defences well on top. 3 second half points was the total scores by both sides. Senans had their tally completed by the 15th mt to lead by one Asdee hung in there and 2mts later struck for the equaliser, Brian Coughlan with a long range free dropped his shot high into the Senans square and up popped Nial Doran to punch over. For the remaining 13 mts or so the game ebbed and flowed with both sides squandering opportunities of snatching victory. Asdee did get through for a Sean Stack goal in the 27th mt but the referee ruled the goal out.
Overall a draw was a fair result but there is room for improvement for some sterner tests ahead. This was a fantastic team performance by Asdee who had Brian Hanlon Sean Stack Donal O Carroll Brian Coughlan Conor Coughlan untill he had to retire injured Sean Mc Elligott and Paul O Hanlon very much to the fore.
