SCOR NA BPAISTI The curtain finally came down on Scor 2008 competitions for St. Marys Asdee on Sunday last March 30th at the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney where the County Finals of Scor Na bPaisti took place before a huge and appreciatitive audience who enjoyed the wonderful entertainment that was on display by fantastic performers who all did themselves and their clubs proud. The local club were represented by ,Kieran Kelly, Asling Kelly, Megann Mulvihill, Micheal Tydings, Cara Henry, Sam Dowd, Eoin Tydings and Sean Keane in the Novelty Act catagory with their sketch The Crossroads which went down very well with everybody, however when the Judges made their final decision at the end of proceedings there was no joy for our representatives. However it was a wonderful achievement for these youngsters to reach the County Finals and the experience will certainly stand to them in future competitions. Well done also to their tutors, Siobhain Keane, Josephine Henry, Maureen Kelly and Angela Dowd who put so much time and effort into prepairing the children for the competition. The following were the winners on the day, Figure Dancing, Laune Rangers,Mid Kerry Board, Solo Singing, Ballymacelligott, Castleisland District Board, Instrumental Music, Brosna Castleisland District Board, Recitation, Legion, East Kerry Board, Ballad Group, Glenflesk, East Kerry Board, Question Time, St. Senans, North Kerry Football Board, Novelty Act, Castleisland Desmonds, Castleisland District Board, Set Dancing, Renard, South Kerry Board.Winner of the overall club, for the Siobhain Cotter Memorial Trophy went to the Renard Club. So looking back on Scor it was yet another tremendous year for the club taking part in Senior, Junior and Scor Na bPaisti and competing from North Kerry to County Final level in the majority of the catagories. However this would not be possible only for the tremendous and dedicated workers who have been doing trojan work not alone this year but in making sure that the club will be represented each year in this competition and the orgainising committee of Scor Officer, Mattie Quinn, Kathleen Carmody, Anna Maria Tydings, Bernie Doran and John Pius Walsh deserve special mention.Of course we can not forget our loyal supporters who followed in great numbers throughout the campaign, also to our local sponsors, Tom O Sullivan of O Sullivans Agri Supplies, Kilcolman who sponsored the Senior Scor while Paddy and Eileen Horgan of Amber Filling Station, Tarbert Road Listowel very kindly sponsored Scor Na Nog. Finally thanks to the Community Centre Committee for making their facility available which is now a permanent fixture and is a very popular venue which has hosted all three competitions, Senior, Junior and Scor Na bPaisti with the past number of years.

SCOR SINSEAR. Despite giving a tremendous performance our Senior Scor Novelty Act team of Nora Stack, Anna Maria Tydings, Con Carmody, Mattie Quinn, Gerdie O Carroll and Jack Hennessy with their hilarious sketch The Adventures of Babysitting just failed in their attempt to lift the County Title in the Novelty Act catagory in the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney on Thursday night last where a packed attendance enjoyed a fantastic evenings entertaintment of the very best in Music, Song, Dance and Act by top class performers. It was once again a very enjoyable journey which started off in the Community Centre Asdee where they were crowned North Kerry champions then it was on to Abbeydorney for the County Semi Finals where a County Final place was copper fashioned despite some exceptional competition, however it was at that final hurdle that brought that journey to the end. On behalf of the Club i would like this opportunity to thank everybody who helped out in any way and also to the supporters who travelled to Killarney.

The following are the winners and who now go through to the Munster Semi Finals which will be staged in Millstreet on this Saturday night March 8th commencing at 7pm for Kerry, Cork and Limerick. SCOR. Last week it was the turn of the County Board to have some of their activities go indoors with the County Semi Finals of Scor Sinsear going ahead at the Community Centre Abbeydorney on Friday night last where a large and appreciative audence enjoyed another absolutely wonderful evenings entertainment and with two out of each catagory going through to the County Finals which will be staged in the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney on this Thursday February 28th at 7 30pm, so all competing competitors gave 100% in their quest for further glory. The local St. Marys club took part in 3 of the 8 catagories, in the Recitation section Donal Dalton was most unlucky not to qualify in this event after giving a tremendous performance with a beautiful rendering of the famous poem, Moriarty. Our Question Time Team of, Nodie Hennessy, Mick Rea and Paudie Deenihan certainly could not be faulted for their efforts and after qualifying at this stage last year for the Finals finishing in a most creditable second position but this year they had to be content this time around with 3rd place just missing out in for qualifaction by a couple of points. Once again the highlight of the night concerning the club was another majestic performance by the Novelty Act Team of Nora Stack, Anna Maria Tydings, Sarah Jane Carmody, Mattie Quinn, Gerdie O Carroll and Jack Hennessy with their hilarious sketch, The Adventures of Baby Sitting which brought the house down with laughter and more imporantly a place in the County Finals. Overal another a great night of top class entertainment that was certainly enjoyed by everybody> The Community Centre Abbeydorney was yet again a very popular venue and well done to everybody concerned in having everything in order for the event. Also full marks to both Brenda Dowling, Abbeydorney, Bean an Ti and County Board Scor Secretary Aine Ide Ni Ingleis for keeping everything running smoothly on the evening. Newly elected County Scor Officer Diarmuid O Shea made the long trip from Dromid for the occasion and in his address to the audence afterwards was loud in his praises of the high standard set by all contestants and thanked everybody for their involvement in the competition, also present were Vice Chairman of the Munster Council, Tom Healy, Vice Chairman of the Kerry Scor Jackie Walsh along with Committee member Tom O Connor. So as already stated the County Finals of Scor Sinsear will be going ahead in the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney commencing at 7 30pm and it is expected that there will once again be a huge local following travelling to support the Novelty Act Team, who hopefully will be all out to repeat their performance of 2005 and lift their second County Title. Best of luck on the night and also we wish both our near neighbours and fellow North Kerry competitors, Gale Rangers, Instrumental Music and the Beale Set Dancers the very best also. The following are the qualifiers on the night, Figure Dancing, Spa, (E K B), Solo Singing, Mary O Donoghue, Glenflesk, (E K B) and Aoife O Choileain, Austin Stacks, (T D B.), Instrumental Music, Gale Rangers, (N K F B) and An Gaeiltacht, (W K B)., Recitation, Brian Cabell, Austin Stacks, (T D B).and Matt O Neill Dr. Crokes, (E K B)., Ballad Group, Na Gaeil, (T D B), and Lispole (W K B), Question Time, Austin Stacks, (T D B) and Scartaglin, (C D B), Novelty Act, Asdee, (N K F B) and Na Gaeil, (T D B). North Kerry Board
The AGM of the North Kerry Board took place recently at the Listowel Arms Hotel where a number of changes took place in the Officership of the Board. Tom O Sullivan who had been Vice Chairman of the Board since 1992 decided to step down from that position having given great and loyal service to the Board over that period of time. Tom was an excellent Officer and served as Chairman of the Referees Committee during that time. However the club had nominated Eddie Anthony Walsh for that vacant Vice Chairman position but unfortunately he failed to get the required votes that would make him become the third Vice Chairman from the club, Tommy O Connor RIP Clounamon held that position during the late 40s Both Billy Enright Ballylongford and Jimmy Buckley Beale were elected to fill the two vacant Vice Chair positions.

Club AGM at the Community Centre

Annual General Meeting of St. Mary's Asdee - 2007
The St Marys Asdee GAA Club held their Club AGM at the Community Centre on Saturday last where there was a large crowd in attendance. The Club who will be celebreating 21 years since its reformation back in 1986 created their own piece of Club history when Kathleen Carmody became the first lady to take up officership having been elected to the position of Assistant Secretary. The only other change from the year gone by was that Jim O Connor was added to the list of Senior team selectors.
Club Secretary Mark O Hanlon in his address to the meeting gave a very detailed account of the years activities stating that the year 2006 was a very active year both on and off the field with teams involved at senior, junior, minor. Bord Na Nog catered for under 12, 14 and 16 level, along with National School and Bun Scoil competitions. Looking back at fixtures the main concern was that the senior team were finding it difficult to field teams in midweek, this was due to the fact that with so many players away they simply could not make themselves available and as a result we were lucky to just escape the drop to division to division 3. However this problem will be rectified this year and the majority of our senior games will be weekend fixtures.Besides all that the seniors had a reasonable good County League campaign with some very encouraging displays,in the County Novice Championship we went down at the Quarter final stage. In the North Kerry Intermediate Championship it was defeat for the second successive year at the final stage.

The Junior squad did reasonably well in the North Kerry League and were very unlucky to go down at the semi final stage of the Novice Championship.
The Secretary congratulated Ballylongford on winning the Jack Walsh Cup and to Knocknure on winning the Peter Stack Cup, both club tournaments, to Sean Carr Store Bar and Jessies Tavern both tournament sponsors respectively. He concluded by thanking everybody for their support during the year and looked forward to the year ahead.

Treasurer Eddie Anthony Walsh in his report said that was that the club were in a healthy state but he urged all members to get involved in further fundraisers during the year ahead.

Chairman Padraig Vallelly who had earlier welcomed everybody to the meeting where a minutes silence was observed for all who had suffered bereavements during the year thanked everybody for their great commitment paid a special tribute to his successor Jim O Connor whome he took over in 2005 stating Jim gave great service to the club and had served in many positions over a 20 year period. Both John and Eoin Kennedy came in for special praise having brought such honour and glory to our club and he also praised the efforts of all the people who organised the homecoming for the Kerry Minor Final to Asdee on the night of the All Ireland Minor Final, it was truly a memorable occasion.Padraig thanked Scor Officer Mattie Quinn for his great work in promoting Scor and finished up by wishing everybody all the best in the year ahead.
