| The
Beginning.
Following
on from the reformation of the
Senior Club in 1986, history was
made when Asdee set up a Bord
Na nOg for the first time. The
first people appointed to look
after the various teams were:
Under 12 - Donie O'Keeffe, John
Scully, Mike Rice, Under 14 -
Sean Doran, Kevin Mulvihill, Michael
O'Connor, Under 16 - Gerard O'Carroll,
Tim O' Connor John Gorman for
the remainder of 1986. In 1987
the first officers were Donie
O'Keeffe, Sec. - John Paul Galvin,
Treasurer - John Scully. The club
competed in tournaments and several
challenge games were played. Then
in 1998 the club compete in most
North Kerry Board competitions
for the first time. John Paul
Galvin took over as chairman that
was to last a 5 year period, MAry
Dee was sec and John Kennedy took
over all underage football. While
no major honours were achieved
we gained great expierience and
fulfilled all fixtures. In 1990
the Club took part in all competitions
reaching the North Kerry League
and Championship semi-finals for
the first time at Under 12 level.
The Under l2's also made it a
first taking part in the County
League and were beaten in the
final of the Beale tournament.
The Under 10's were beaten in
the semi-final of the Tarbert
tournament by one point. All in
all a very satisfactory year for
the club. 1991, our Under 10's
defeated in the final of the Beale
tournament and our Under 13's
were just pipped by a star studded
Listowel outfit in the Quarter
Final.
Páirc
Breathnach when our Under 12 footballers
took the field against Duagh in
a North Kerry League tie, but
more importantly for the tremendous
success of our Under 14 footballers
who became the first underage
team from Asdee to win a North
Kerry League tie by defeating
Moyvane in a thrilling League
final played in Clounmacon on
Fri. July 20th on a scoreline
of 0-10 to 1-3. The historic team
and subs were: John Long, Timmy
Finucane, Sean "Red"
Stack, Ger Lynch, Martin Stack,
Sean "Black" Stack,
Karl Kissane, Danny Finucane,
Pat Joe Long, Gerry Long (0-1),
Maurice O'Mahony (0-4), Donal
O'Caffoll (0-2) (Capt), Dan Kearney,

12 level we were Most unlucky
to lose the Tarbert Tournament
final to Moyvane,the team who
also Pipped us for promotion in
the North Kerry League and lost
the semi-final of the Beale tournament
to the Locals. The curtain finally
came down on 1992 when a special
function was organised at the
Community Centre to honour our
under age players who brought
so much glory to the Club. Invited
guests were Ogie Moran who was
then trainer of the Kerry Senior
football team who presented the
Under 14 team with their medals
and Teddy Keane North Kerry Bord
na nOg Sec.
New
Chairman.
In
1993 long serving Chairman John
Paul Galvin stepped down and was
replaced by Donie Finucane. Once
again the Under 16's reached the
North Kerry Leaoue semi-final
only to be beaten by Ballydonoghue
1-7 to 0-9 after a replay. The
Under 14 team got to the semi-final
of the North Kerry Championship
who were beaten by Moyvane and
were defeated by Beale in the
final of the Local tournament.
1994 the Under 16 team lost to
Tarbert in the North eh Kerry
League semi-final, Under 14 went
down to Beale in North Kerry League
semi-final. Our first Cross Channel
visitors Holloway Gaels of London
took on our Under 14's and they
served up a most enjoyable friendly
game with Asdee victorious in
the end. Afterwards the teams
and mentors attended a function
at the Jessie James Tavern with
the highlight of the evening been
the presentation of medals to
both teams by the legendary Mike
Sheehy. In 1996 after all the
defeats at under age level at
the semi-final stage our Under
12 side gave tremendous displays
to capture the North Kerry League
title 11-a-side, winning all their
games in spectacular fashion and
defeating Beale in a great final
in Listowel by 1-7 to 2-3. Teams

Rea, Tom Rea, Eoin O'Carroll,
Brian Kennedy, Janme Kelly, Stevie

1992 a special function took place
at the Community Centre where
the victorious team and subs were
presented with their medals by
present County Senior football
star Dara O'Shea, also in attendance
was Maurice Leahy of Kerry hurling
fame. Team mentors: Padraig and
Kevin Vallelly, John Paul Galvin,
Mike Long and Joe Dee were also
presented with medals to mark
the occasion. The Under 10 side
reached the local tournament final
losing to Beale. The Club were
also honoured when Hugh O'Donoghue
and Matthew Hanlon were members
of the victorious North Kerry
Under 16 team which captured the
County Championship. John Kennedy
was trainer.
The
Future.
There is little doubt that the
future of any Club depends almost
entirely on the organising of
teams at under age level, and
the people in charge of Bord Na
nOg are often the unsung heroes.
With the people already mentioned
here are some others who devoted
their time to Asdee Bord Na nOg:
Michael Mulvihill, Tom Gorman,
John Joe O'CarrOll, Patsy Coughlan,
Ger Griffin, John P. Walsh, Bill
Galvin, Tom O'Sullivan. Ft, Randles,
Sean Doran, Eddie Anthony Walshe,
Rose Scully, Patrick O'Brien,
Moe McEntaggert. The work began
in 1986 is an unending task. The
young boys will forever want to
play Gaelic Football and hopefully
the Asdee St. Mary's Club will
always have the people to devote
their spare time coaching, training
and looking after these future
men.
Bord

that was needed if they were to
progress to the bigger stage but
he stated that he had no doubt
but that some of these players
will play at a higher level. He
mentioned about his Croke Park
experience and how wonderful it
was to run on to the field knowing

him on. Then as each member of
the panel came forward to collect
